On October 25, in Resistencia, Province of Chaco, a doppler weather radar with double linear polarization was inaugurated. It is the third of a series of ten radars, part of the operational prototype of the city of C\u00f3rdoba, which will be integrated to the National System of Meteorological Radars (SINARAME, in Spanish) entrusted to INVAP S.E. (Argentine state-owned applied research company) by the national government through the National Undersecretary Office of Water Resources.<\/p>\n
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Governor of the Province of Chaco, Mr. Domingo Peppo, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. Fabi\u00e1n Echezarreta; the National Director for the Protection and Preservation of Water Resources, Mr. Carlos Lacunza; the President of the Provincial Administration of Water, Engineer Francisco Zisuela; and the President of the company Ecom Chaco, Leandro Flaschka. Besides, on behalf of INVAP, the event was attended by Engineer Marcelo Basigalup, the Government Project Manager, and Systems Engineer Federico Renolfi, involved in the Argentine Meteorological Radar (RMA, in Spanish) project.<\/p>\n
The radar, designed and manufactured by INVAP, can scan the atmosphere within a distance of up to 480 km and 360\u00ba around, providing information that allows users to locate hydrometeorological formations such as rain, snow or hail, and measure the speed at which they move.
\nThis information is sent in real time to a high-performance Operation Center (COP, in Spanish) located in Buenos Aires, at the facilities of the National Meteorological Service, allowing the production of weather forecasts in the short term; the prevision and monitoring of environmental eventualities such as hail, torrential rain and severe storms, among others; and the supply of basic data for the navigation and aerial navigation safety, and for technology and scientific research.<\/p>\n
